Verisign Increases Price of Domain Names

Come October 1st, and after an increase in domain name prices in 2007, Verisign is again exercising its contractual right to raise prices. The base registration fees for .com domain names will be hiked to $6.86 from existing $6.42 per .com domain for all registrars. Currently, registrars pay VeriSign $6.42 per .com domain name. Pricing for any new .IN domain name for an End User has come down to Rs. 200/= (plus / minus Rs. 50 depending on the Registrar). Earlier second level .IN domain names were being sold at Rs. 800/= and third level .IN domain names were sold for Rs. 450/=.

Changes in Domain Transfer Process (.COM / .NET)

To transfer your domains OUT of a Registrar (referred as Loosing Registrar), you have to get your own AUTH-INFO code from the Registrar Company. Some companies provide it within their control panel while some may send it to your email.

In last few years domain registry companies have seen customers taking away their .COM / .NET domains freely to other registrar. In the process some frauds also happened. To put a full stop to all this ICANN has made it mandatory for all domain transfers to be supported by a mandatory AUTH-INFO Code (or Transfer Authorization Secret).
